Gomez, known for being open about her personal struggles, is relieved that the focus is now on her work.
“It’s a relief,” she said. “I’d rather hear criticism about my job than about my personal life. I feel very proud,” she added, noting the film’s nine-minute standing ovation.
She praised the film, directed by Jacques Audiard and co-starring Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofia Gascon, as an “incredible masterpiece.” The film is in the running for the Palme d’Or award.
With 428 million Instagram followers, Gomez faces intense public scrutiny. Her openness about health issues, including lupus and bipolar disorder, often makes headlines.
Recently, she told NBC’s “Today” show that limiting social media comments to friends helps her set boundaries.
